Follow the steps below to connect your device to the VPN using UniFi Identity. This will enable secure remote access to the organization’s network.
Before You Begin #
Please make sure of the following before starting:
- You have received your UniFi Identity invitation email.
- You have a mobile device available for two-factor authentication (2FA).
- You are using a compatible computer (macOS or Windows).
- You have uninstalled or disabled any legacy VPN software (such as Cisco AnyConnect, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec clients, or older UniFi VPN clients) to avoid conflicts.
- You have administrative access to install software on your device.
Step 1: Activate Your UniFi Identity Account #
- Open the welcome email from UniFi Identity.
- Click the activation link.
- Set your account password.
- Download and install the UniFi Identity mobile app (iOS or Android).
- Sign in using your newly created credentials.
Step 2: Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) #
- Open the UniFi Identity app on your mobile device.
- Go to Settings > Security.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication and follow the instructions to complete setup.(Your organization may use app-based codes or push notifications.)
Step 3: Install the UniFi VPN Client #
- Visit https://identity.ui.com.
- Sign in using your UniFi Identity credentials.
- Go to the Downloads section.
- Download and install the VPN client for your operating system.
Step 4: Connect to the VPN #
- Open the UniFi VPN client.
- Log in with your UniFi Identity account.
- Complete the 2FA challenge on your mobile device.
- Click Connect to establish a secure connection.
Troubleshooting #
- Didn’t receive the activation email? Check your spam/junk folder or contact IT.
- Connection issues? Confirm your internet is working and legacy VPN apps are removed.
- If the VPN client hangs or fails to connect, restart your device and try again.
