UniFi Identity VPN Instructions

Follow the steps below to connect your device to the VPN using UniFi Identity. This will enable secure remote access to the organization’s network.

Before You Begin #

Please make sure of the following before starting:

  • You have received your UniFi Identity invitation email.
  • You have a mobile device available for two-factor authentication (2FA).
  • You are using a compatible computer (macOS or Windows).
  • You have uninstalled or disabled any legacy VPN software (such as Cisco AnyConnect, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec clients, or older UniFi VPN clients) to avoid conflicts.
  • You have administrative access to install software on your device.

Step 1: Activate Your UniFi Identity Account #

  1. Open the welcome email from UniFi Identity.
  2. Click the activation link.
  3. Set your account password.
  4. Download and install the UniFi Identity mobile app (iOS or Android).
  5. Sign in using your newly created credentials.

Step 2: Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) #

  1. Open the UniFi Identity app on your mobile device.
  2. Go to Settings > Security.
  3. Enable Two-Factor Authentication and follow the instructions to complete setup.(Your organization may use app-based codes or push notifications.)

Step 3: Install the UniFi VPN Client #

  1. Visit https://identity.ui.com.
  2. Sign in using your UniFi Identity credentials.
  3. Go to the Downloads section.
  4. Download and install the VPN client for your operating system.

Step 4: Connect to the VPN #

  1. Open the UniFi VPN client.
  2. Log in with your UniFi Identity account.
  3. Complete the 2FA challenge on your mobile device.
  4. Click Connect to establish a secure connection.

Troubleshooting #

  • Didn’t receive the activation email? Check your spam/junk folder or contact IT.
  • Connection issues? Confirm your internet is working and legacy VPN apps are removed.
  • If the VPN client hangs or fails to connect, restart your device and try again.
